Metro Manila Mayors meet the DOT to boost urban tourism

Metropolitan Manila is about to get an overhaul as the Department of Tourism or the DOT had a meeting on last Thursday with Metro Manila mayors, tourism officers, local government unit (LGU) representatives and stakeholders. Wanda Teo, Tourism Secretary while giving speech at Metro Manila Tourism Forum pointed out that the challenges like traffic congestion and inappropriate urban planning due to the revitalization program.
She also cited that Miss Universe pageant which took place last month gave Metro Manila a major impetus and brought to the forefront the beauty of this thriving city to the world.
The pageant not only highlighted and introduced Manila to the global map but also helped in boosting tourism of this region. The secretary also confirmed that many new programs are waiting like the cruise tourism program that’ll benefit Metro Manila extensively in the coming days. In order to make the tourists feel safe, she said that Tourist Police in association with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) will be working together.
To quote Teo, ‘’ If we can restore its architectural landmarks, it can continue to be the regal queen of the country. Beautiful destinations are not accidents; they are the results of deliberate, thoughtful planning, careful execution and much passion.’’
